Insightful comments about evolution-revolution. Interesting debate, and I haven't even read Liam's original post. I tend to agree with Mike, though. In my experience, the sad truth is that IC practitioners tend to chase trends and practices rather than invent or innovate. Maybe that's natural to the human condition givent he stresses of day to day work-life. But we do tend to navel gaze a lot and wring oour hands over things rather than getting onw ith trying something new. Network analysis is a much more fruitful approach to getting under the skin of the organisation than hierarchy, or indeed (a subject close to my heart) traditional audience segmentation. Unfortunately many IC people confuse their definition of the audience and its needs with the audience. A network analysis approach focuses on relationship, behaviour and activity -- surely a pretty key communication outcome.
